This unit will occur once in Semester I and once in Semester II. I will attempt to cover poetry from the 17th Century through modern day, so that you are exposed to a smattering of each era. Our goal is not only to read and annotate these poems, but to study the historical context and societal issues of each and analyze meter and devices employed in order to explicate properly. These skills are essential in order to write a solid Q1 essay on your exam.

You will focus on developing strong thesis statements in this unit as you answer an exam prompt regarding poetry. You will learn how to integrate poetry lines in the body of your essay as you prove your thesis.
