Unit Three - Classical Tragedy

This unit we will study (review) Oedipus Rex for plot structure, conventions of Greek tragedy, mythology, archetypes, themes, paradox, irony, dramatic irony, tragic flaws (hamartia) and repetition. We will also study Aristotle's approach to Tragedy, and use this as an introduction to Hamlet (one of the greatest tragedies to date).

How to Read Literature Like a Professor

You will read a few designated chapters that complement this unit nicely and be ready to discuss, socratically, the importance of works like Oedipus Rex in contemporary literature.

Using a previous AP exam prompt, you will write a paper regarding suffering, and apply it to Jane Eyre.
